Best Gifts for Every Adventure Dog
It doesn’t matter if your friend’s adventure dog will be joining them for a quick day trip or a week-long vacation. Every dog owner needs some basic gear to stay safe, comfortable, and ready for anything. These great gift ideas are perfect for both outdoorsy dogs and city pups.

- Remington’s Pup Memory Passport– the perfect way to keep their dog’s important information nearby AND record all their favorite memories.
- Personalized passport holder– Keep their Pup Passport safe in a cute or customized passport holder.
- Collapsible dog bowl– I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many!
- Dog wipes– for muddy paws or dirty pups
- Poop bag holder and bags- get a fancy one with their dog’s name on it, or just one that’s cute. This is another gift that always comes in handy.
- Portable water bottle– Personally, I prefer bottles that work for both myself and my dogs.
- Dog travel bag– we use this one, and it fits their food, meds, toys, chews, poop bags, and more.
- Dog Backpack Carrier– (here’s a guide to help you pick the right dog backpack; we have one for each of our dogs, and we’ve used them all.
- Travel crate or carrier– if you aren’t sure on the size or type, a gift card is always helpful.
- First aid kit -this is what we use as our base kit, and we add things like peroxide to it as per our DIY Dog First Aid Kit post.
- Positive reinforcement training classes– perfect for pet owners of puppies and rescue dogs who would like to feel better about traveling more with their furry friends.
- Emergency harness– we love Fido for our dogs
- GPS tracker- gift your favorite dog parent peace of mind. The hard part may be picking the best one.
Gifts that Bring the Comforts of Home
Even the most adventurous pups need a little comfort when they’re away from home. These gift ideas bring familiar coziness to cabins, hotels, campgrounds, and guest rooms alike. Perfect for keeping anxious pups relaxed and giving pet parents a more restful experience on every trip.

- Travel bed or mat– We have a few dog beds and mats that are comfortable but still easy to transport. Our current favorite is an inflatable dog bed by Outward Hound that we found on super sale at Petco, but there are plenty of options and good deals out there!
- Sound machine– We never leave home without it.
- Calming spray– This has helped two of our dogs who get a little stressed in the car.
- Calming hemp chews– A friend talked us into trying these, and they are a miracle worker for our little stressed-out pup, Francis.
- Thundershirt – We also have a couple of thundershirts to help with storms and fireworks, both at home and on the road.
- Travel toys– toys that won’t damage floors or leave too much of a mess are perfect. Doubles of their favorites work well too, so there’s no worry about accidentally losing them while on vacation.
Gifts for Dogs Who Travel by Car
The right car-ride gear can make every trip safer, smoother, and more enjoyable. These gift ideas are perfect for pups who love sticking their head out the window, curling up in the backseat, or snoozing through long drives. From safety essentials to comfort upgrades, these items help keep traveling dogs secure, relaxed, and adventure-ready the moment the car stops.

- Travel crate (our search and rescue team swears by this crate)
- Seatbelt/harness combo. If you travel a lot, you can look into crash-tested ones like this one by Sherpa. You can also buy a dog bead that doubles as a seatbelt.
- Car rooftop cargo carrier– this is the closest one to what we have; we also have a hardtop carrier, too. I prefer the softer one because I can just detach it and bring the whole thing in, but my husband likes the hardtop because it’s solid and more secure. We’ve never had an issue with either.
- Handheld car vacuum-help them win the never-ending battle against pet hair.
- Car seat covers– we typically find the best deals at Home Goods and T.J. Maxx for these
- Sun shades for the back windows help keep your furry friend in the backseat cooler by blocking sunlight.
- Car fan– because tinted windows, sun shades, and A/C are never enough in the summer.
Gift Ideas For the Human, Too
Because the dog parent deserves some love and help remembering their adventures.

- Custom map of trips taken together with their dogs
- Virtual photo frame– so they can easily look at and show off the adventures they’ve gone on

- Car air freshener for pet odors

Those collapsible bowls seem so handy! I don’t have a dog, but see people all over town using them. It would be so nice not to have to worry about your dog getting a drink all day!
They are very handy. I like that they don’t take up much space in our packs 🙂
What a great collection of gift ideas for dog lovers who travel! I wouldn’t have thought of most of these and they are very thoughtful. I think I’m going to need the hiking pants you mention for myself– our Husky’s fur is on all of our clothes!
I have several pairs and wear them everywhere now! LOL, dog hair is no joke!!!
Thanks for compiling such a great list. As a proud mom to an adventure pup, I can attest to the importance of a lot of these items. In fact, we just purchased the Outward Hound dog pack! Cant wait for Huckleberry to test it out 🙂
We have an outward hound pack for each of our dogs. We put water in the bigger more energetic pups bags to get more of their energy out quicker 😛
This is a very thorough list! I didn’t realize dogs came with this much gear. We just got a kitten, and I’m thinking of a few things I’d like to get for it. It’s my first attempt into the pet world, and I’m loving it–but have a lot to learn.
Congratulations on the new kitten! A lot of these things are necessary when you travel with dogs, but they can make the trip easier and more enjoyable for all 🙂
We love the collapsible water bowls. We take them everywhere with our dog. I have looked into the cooling mat, but not sure if our dog would use it.
2 out of the 4 dogs use our cooling mats. We are getting the bandanas mostly to help on the hikes since we don’t spend a lot of time at the campsite during the day. We haven’t had any overheating issues yet but these bandanas should help us keep it that way!
The collapsible bowls and the seatbelts have been game changers for me! I need a portable vacuum in my life FOR SURE.
A portable vacuum is the number one thing on my wish list this year!
This is such a great list! I love all the dog gift ideas for travelers!
Thank you!
These are great suggestions. I have considered getting a seatbelt for my dog but I haven’t at this point. Do you find that they work well?
It can take a while for the more active dogs to get used to them but they do work well keeping them in the seat. On longer trips, we have our back seats down and aren’t able to use them then but hopefully, we can find an option that works in that situation. 🙂 Let me know if you have more questions 🙂
These are some great ideas! The one I have been thinking about is the stretcher…although even with it I’m not sure I could manage to lift my beasts if something happened!
With our 70lb dog, I need help getting up! LOL But after I am up I can carry her for a while with no problem.
What a great list! We did not know about some on there and will need to share with our dog traveling friends.
Thanks! They come out with new and useful things every year so we are always updating our supplies 🙂
Love your dog gift idea. I need to get theses traveling bowl. Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome! The bowls are great…my favorite part of them is the carabiner so they are easy to find and access.
These are excellent suggestions for pet owners who travel with their fur babies!
Thank you! They do help us make the trip go more smoothly 🙂
This is a great list for pet owners!
Thank you!
I love gift guides! Great ideas!
Thank you!
Thats a pretty awesome list! I don’t have a dog, but my Mom does. She has a few things things you mentioned. Will have to look into a couple suggestions as a gift idea!
I hope it helps you find the perfect gift!
I don’t have a dog but these look like great gift ideas
Thank you! It can be hard knowing what to gift dog owners if you don’t have a dog 🙂
Love the gift ideas for pet owners, so many useful ones here!
Thank you so much!
These are great Tiffany! I’ve wanted a collapsable bowl for traveling. And how cute are the little dog backpacks!?
Thanks! I love the backpacks….especially for our bigger dogs that have a ton of energy! LOL
I love harnesses for my dog instead of the leash/collar – she’s a bit wild, and would choke herself with a collar. Great list!
We realized that we prefer ALL our dogs have harnesses in the mountains after encountering some of the VERY narrow paths with super steep drop-offs!
