Top 5 North Dakota Roadside Attractions
Be prepared with a list of North Dakota roadside attractions available for your road trip. Most of these stops are found along I94-E but there is one that is spread along the road between Badlands National Park and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. All these roadside attractions are free, unless you choose to donate or enter a museum, so you will have more money in your pocketbook when you make it to your destination. Break up your drive by crossing several quirky sites off your list and take these opportunities to stretch your legs, eat a snack, and wake up a little more before continuing your journey.

Booking.comRegent Enchanted Highway
Regent Enchanted Highway consists of 7 giant sculptures made up of scrap metal at different locations along the side of the road. There is a small dirt parking lot at each location to make it easier to stop at each one to take pictures. This is a free attraction and one that your dog can get out of the car for too. If you are traveling from Black Hills, South Dakota to Theodore Roosevelt National Park make sure to check these sculptures out.
Salem Sue
If you are driving I-94E you can stop and see Salem Sue, the World’s Largest Holstein Cow in New Salem, North Dakota. This stop is free, but you do have the opportunity to donate to help with the upkeep of the statue. There is a small parking lot provided and a sign available that tells the story about how the cow came about. You can walk up the hill to get photographs with Sue. The trail leads past the cow and up to the top of the hill if you want to admire the view of the surrounding area.
Sandy the Sandhill Crane
Along I-94E you can also find Sandy, the World’s Largest Sandhill Crane in Steele, North Dakota. Sandy is a 40 ft tall crane statue that is accompanied by a sign that talks about Sandy by the parking lot. There is another sign that nicely points you in the right direction to take the best photo possible with Sandy for your scrapbook. Across the street from this stop is a gas station for all your road trip break needs.
National Buffalo Museum
If you stop in Jamestown, North Dakota to see the World’s Largest Buffalo you will be in for a pleasant surprise. To get to the 26-foot-tall buffalo statue you drive through a tiny frontier town to get to the parking lot at the end of Louis L’Amour Lane. During the tourist season, this street provides several stores to wander in and admire.
Near the parking lot, there is a spot where you can view a herd of buffalo that belongs to the National Buffalo Museum. When we went, there was a White Buffalo in the herd that we were able to see and get a picture of.
If you want to extend your stop, you can take a short drive to explore the National Buffalo Museum for an $8 admission fee. The museum was highly recommended by fellow travelers that we had met on our trip. Unfortunately, we did not have time to do more than go in the gift shop but the next time I drive through, I plan on stopping in because it looked like it would be an interesting stop.
Wally the Walleye
If you find yourself in Garrison, North Dakota you can see Wally the World’s Largest Walleye. Wally is a 26-foot-tall fiberglass statue that stands in a park in the center of town. Garrison is known as the Walleye capitol of the world (for any avid fishermen that may be driving through). Since the park is located at the end of main street, you can find several shops where you can buy food and other items from or just take the opportunity to relax in the city park.
