What is the Butler County Donut Trail?
There are 11 different donut stores on the trail spread out over Butler County, which is located in Southwest Ohio. You can pick up the passport at any of the shops or the Butler County Visitor’s Bureau. You can also print it out from their website.
One of the stops is optional, as the passport has already been stamped in that spot. Once you have received a stamp from each of the remaining shops, you can either mail your passport in or drop it off at the Butler County Visitors Bureau to get your free shirt. The shirts are unisex and range from Youth Large up to Double Extra Large.

How Long Will It Take to Complete the Donut Trail?
Unless you study, prepare a strategic plan of attack, and start early, plan on this taking at least two days. Many of the shops close by 12 noon, may run out of donuts, or are not open every day of the week. Remember, they are spread around an entire county, so this will involve a bit of driving.
We completed the trail in 3 different trips on our way through the area, back when there were 13 shops. The first time we started at noon to find most stores were closed or sold out, so we only successfully got two shops checked off the list. On the 2nd visit, we arrived around 11 am and were able to hit 5 shops. The third time was the charm, we arrived at around 10 am and finished the last 5 shops on my passport (the 13th was a freebie).
Where are the Stops on the Donut Trail?
The bakeries for the Butler County Donut Trail are spread throughout the county. Though I did organize the shops below by city, it would be easier for you to look at the trail map to help you decide the best course.
I also listed the information I wish I had at my fingertips while we were driving around the area, eating our fill of sweets. Things like the stores’ addresses, phone numbers, and hours of operation. This information has been updated as of January 2026. As always, it’s always best to confirm directly with the shops for the most updated information.

Tips About the Donut Trail
- Plan on the donut tour taking more than just one day. Without a detailed plan of attack, this donut tour will take more than one day.
- Always check the location against the passport. Some stores have multiple locations, but not every location is a part of the donut trail.
- Be aware of the different hours of operation for each store. Some stores aren’t open every day, and the hours may vary quite a bit. We found several of the stores had different hours than what was posted online.
- Call First. Check if they are still open and on their donut availability BEFORE you drive to the store (especially after 11 am). Some of the stores can and will sell out of donuts. In addition, some of the stores close early once they sell out. Save yourself a wasted trip and call ahead.
Plan other activities.
Because the donut shops can close early once they sell out, include other activities nearby in the area so you don’t find yourself with wasted trips.
Nearby Attractions
Hamilton, Ohio
Hamilton is known as the city of sculptures. This is a perfect place to enjoy your donuts while walking around the downtown area, admiring the artwork and numerous shops. It is also a great opportunity to burn off some of those calories!
Just Southwest of Hamilton is Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and Museum. There is an $8 entry fee and leashed pets are welcome on the paths!
Cincinnati, Ohio
Depending on where in Butler County you are, you might only be an hour away from Cincinnati which is full of countless things to do. You can check out the fantastic Cincinnati Zoo, King Island (amusement park), or any number of other museums and attractions.
Columbus, Ohio
A little bit further away (about 90 min) in Columbus there is another zoo, in addition to some waterparks and Legoland. They even have a dog-friendly hotel and brewery called the Doghouse where you can enjoy a beer straight out of the tap from the comfort of your room!
Conclusion
The Butler County Donut Trail is a fun way to explore the Southwest part of Ohio while providing an excellent excuse to eat donuts. Completing the trail will most likely take more than 1 day and a bit of planning, but as long as you combine the quest for your free t-shirt with some other stops, this trail is well worth the trip.

This is incredible! I’m always up for trip if it involved donuts! 13 donut stores sounds like a dream! I want to try all of these stores! Thanks for the great guide!
You’re welcome! 13 wasn’t a lot until I started eating all of them LOL
Oh my goodness what a delicious-looking trail to follow! So many options that I feel are all calling for me for a taste!
I’m not a big food trail person but this one was excellent!
Now THIS is a trail I can get onboard with! Such a great concept and as someone who likes to eat, walk and explore then this would be ideal for me! I love the sound of the cheesecake ones – yum,!
The Cheesecake donuts were FABULOUS!!!
How fun is this! Donuts and a t-shirt!! My daughter would have me doing this for sure if we were in the area!
Keep it in mind if you ever visit the area 😉
This sounds like so much fun, and delicious! My town (Pawleys Island, SC) is getting a new donut shop. I will share this article with them.
Hopefully, they can use the idea to their advantage…maybe a desert-type trail if there aren’t a lot of donut shops?
I lived in Ohio for a while. I’ve never heard of this, but it sounds interesting, and I’m sure kids will love to track their visits. I’m sure adults will too.
It was fun after I realized the calling ahead tip. LOL The first day was frustrating driving to find out the place was closed
Wow this had to be SUCH a fun post to put together. All these donuts look delicious. What a fun idea to do in my local town!
It was a great excuse to indulge in sweets! A bit hard now to go back to better eating habits LOL
This sounds like a lot of delicious fun. I LOVE donuts. I so want to do this. Thanks for sharing this fun adventure with the insider information to get the bonus Tee Shirt.
I’ve eaten, drink, and ran/walked a lot for a free T-shirt. It’s my weakness LOL
What a fun way to spend the day for the whole family!! 13 donuts is a lot for 1 person! Lol
It was a lot! Even splitting it up over 3 days. We ended up eating the donuts over the beginning of our trips, it worked out nicely 🙂
I am dying to know what your top three places were! I would love to see a picture of your shirt too! This is totally my kind of thing to do!
I’d have to say Martin’s donuts was my favorite! (bonus because they also had dog treats for my pups). I am still waiting on my shirt but will post a pic when I get it- I can’t wait!!
What fun! Even without the issue of stores running out of donuts and their hours, I would think this would take more than one day to complete. I don’t know that I could eat 13 donuts in a day no matter how good they are.
We used them for breakfast and dessert for the next two days on our trip. I did take a fresh bite out of each so I could have an honest opinion on their level of donut LOL
What a fun way to see an area! Who doesn’t like doughnuts?
It was nice seeing different places as we drove around for donuts 🙂
What a cool idea! Thanks for sharing. I would like to see a version of this in California Wine Country!
That would be so cool!!!
I’ve heard of a wine trail, but never a donut trail. This sounds awesome. I love the tips about getting to the shops before they close.
Thanks! I never thought of the stores closing early, so I figured this was very important to know 🙂
Well this is just the best idea ever! Who doesn’t love a donut, let alone a passport with tons of donuts!!!
And to top it off a shirt to brag about finishing it! 🙂
This sounds like a lot of fun! Donuts are great!
I absolutely LOVE this!! Will have to look into getting that passport the next time we are in the neighbourhood… or maybe… head there on purpose just for the donuts! LOL
Def worth a stop or two! 🙂
What a great idea! My son would love to do one of these, lol.
I think they should definitely be more common in places! Yum!!!
What a fun trail, especially for the donut lover!
It was a great excuse to indulge!
What a delicious trail to take 🙂
It certainly was!
Okay, this is right up my alley! Cool post.
Thanks!
